 1 – Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Fish oil and certain plant/nut oil contain omega-3 fatty acids. Take fish oil supplements because it is beneficial for your heart health. Fish oil contains both Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), while some nuts and vegetables (English walnuts, canola, soybean, flaxseed/linseed, olive) contain Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA).

Different researches on fatty acids had prove that intake of recommended amounts of DHA and EPA in the form of dietary fish or fish supplements lowers triglycerides, reduces the risk of death, heart attack, and dangerous abnormal heart rhythms. Fatty acids also reduce the risks of stroke in people with known cardiovascular disease, slow the buildup of atherosclerotic plaques (hardening of the arteries), and lower the blood pressure slightly. Similar effects are proposed for alpha-linolenic acid, but scientific evidence is less compelling.

2 – Garlic Supplements

There are various clinical trials which had shown the benefits of garlic supplements in heart disease. The studies show that garlic helps in lowering LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.

The American Dietetic Association recommends that in order to get the potential health benefits of garlic, one must take 600-900mg (almost 1 fresh clove) per day.

3 – Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin. It’s also essential for the healthy heart it keeps the cholesterol down in body and also prevents cholesterol buildup in blood veins.

4 – Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin and it’s an essential nutrient for normal growth and development. Water soluble vitamins dissolve in water. Leftover amounts of the vitamin leave the body through the urine. So it means we need a continuous supply of such vitamins in our diet.

Our body needs vitamin C for growth and repair of tissues in all parts of body. Vitamin C also helps in protecting heart from disease.

5 – Policosanol

Policosanol is a mixture of alcohols isolated from Cuban sugarcane wax. It is a dietary supplement which contains almost 60% octacosanol.

Policosanol is used as a nutritional supplement in order to lower the LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) and increase HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol).
