Healthy body bears a healthy mind! There are foods also that keep the brain healthy. Like other body organs brain too needs healthy diet. The foods that help brain to fight dementia, Alzheimer’s and stress. See what type of food is best for your brain.

Brain is the most important part of our body. That’s why its health is necessary to live a good life. Brain does need food to perform better so it’s needed to think about the brain food needs. So it can remain healthy and perform better. Basically brain neurons need glucose all the time and brain itself 60% made of fat. So foods that contain fatty acids are always good for brain.

Here is the list of food that is good for brain:

1. Nuts

There are many types of nuts available in market. But almonds and walnuts are best for brain and nervous system. They contain fatty acids like Omega 3 and Omega 6, vitamin B6 and vitamin E. Vitamin E improves brain power and protects it from free radicals. Vitamin E also prevents many forms of dementia. There are some anti-nutrients like phytic acid in nuts also. Those anti nutrients are not big problem as we consume nuts in small amounts. Best way to use nuts is to soak them for 8 hours in night and take them in morning.

2. Chia Seeds

Chia seeds have many benefits for human body. They contain Omega 3 fatty acid and both soluble and insoluble fiber. Chia seeds are anti inflammatory, controls sugar level and also aid in hydration. Chia seeds got many anti oxidants.

3. Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate contains flavonols which is good for blood vessel function. Good blood vessel function improves cognitive functions and memory. Dark chocolate is full of antioxidants, makes mood good and ease the pain.

4. Avocado

Avocado has many nutrients that are good for human body and brain. Avocado has fatty acids such as, omega 3 and omega 6. It also contains vitamin E, vitamin K and potassium. Fatty acids like omega 3 and omega 6 increase the blood flow to brain and lowers cholesterol. Omega 3 and omega 6 also help in absorption of antioxidants. Vitamin E protects body and brain from free radical damage, while vitamin K and potassium protects brain from stroke.

Whole grains contain carbohydrates, omega 3 fatty acids and fiber which protect heart and brain from damaging sugar spike, blood clots and cholesterol. Whole grains are also source of Vitamin B complex. B vitamins affect the blood flow to brain.

All those foods which are good for brain are also good for heart also. Coconut oil contains medium chain triglycerides that body use for energy and leaves glucose for brain. Coconut oil is beneficial for blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar. Coconut oil is anti inflammatory and it prevents Alzheimer’s and dementia.

7. Tomatoes

Lycopene is a potent anti oxidant which fights dementia and it also improves mood balance. Tomatoes are best source of lycopene.

8. Beans and Legumes

Beans and legumes contain complex carbohydrates and fiber. Beans and legumes carbohydrates slowly in body which keeps the supply of glucose steady for brain. This eliminates the risk of sugar spikes. Beans and legumes are source of folate-a and Vitamin B which are necessary for brain function and omega fatty acids.

9. Sunflower & Pumpkin Seeds

Sunflower and pumpkin seeds are rich in protein, omega fatty acids and Vitamin B complex. These seeds are also source of tryptophan, which brain converts into serotonin. Serotonin is necessary to boost mood and fight depression. These seeds sprout and micro-greens are also healthier.
