Pain like toothache, headache or backache almost all of us face. There are many medicated pain killers but with risks of side effects. While if we turn to nature there are many natural painkillers also. Natural painkillers are known as alternative medicine.

Headache, toothache or backache is common problems often we face. While we get the pain in body we first look for pain killers. Though, pain is relieved but these medications have risks of side effects also. Some people may develop addiction for pain killers.

Cloves may treat fungal infections too but it needs some more research.

Eugenol is an active ingredient in cloves which is a natural painkiller. Eugenol is also used in some over the counter pain rubs. Rubbing clove oil on your gums will ease toothache but too much undiluted clove oil can damage your gums. So it’s necessary to discuss this with your dentist also.

Turmeric is a spice that’s used to give color and unique color in curry or other dishes. A compound curcumin found in turmeric is an antioxidant which protects body from free radical molecules that can damage cells and tissue.

Turmeric can be used for treatment of conditions like, indigestion, ulcers, stomach upset, cancer, and psoriasis. Hence, turmeric is a natural pain killer and it relieves inflammation.

3. Willow Bark

Willow bark ease inflammation and pain, it’s been used to treat ache from centuries. Salicin is active ingredient in willow bark which is similar to the main ingredient in aspirin.

Willow bark relieves pain and fevers and it’s available in market in form of dried herb, liquid supplement and in capsule form. Certainly it relieves headache, lower back pain, osteoarthritis (OA) and many other conditions.

Finally willow bark has some side effects too. Willow barks side effects are similar like aspirin. It upsets stomach, slows kidneys and prolongs bleeding. So, it should be used only by adults and avoided from children.  It’s poisonous for children. Similarly people who are sensitive with aspirin should not take willow bark. If you are taking warfarin or any other anticoagulant treatments then you must not take willow bark. Because Salicin in willow bark with increase the risk of bleeding. It’s best to talk with your doctor before using willow bark if you are using anti inflammatory or pain medicines.

4. Ice and Heat

One of the most common pain relieve remedies is applying ice and heat. Though, its common treatment in homes but most of people don’t know when to use ice versus heat.  When you get strained muscle, ligament or tendon use ice to reduce swelling after that when inflammation disappear use heat to reduce stiffness.

Headache can be relieved by using the cold pack on head. In arthritis pain problems moist heat applied to the joint helps more than ice. Moist heat packs can be used many times and they can be heated easily in microwave.
