Best Sources of Renewable Energy
3 min read
Renewable energy or green energy is form energy that doesn’t require fossil fuels. How to determine best source of renewable energy according to your location requires little knowledge about renewable energy sources; there availability and costs. The best source of renewable energy for you is that which you can access, afford and gain sufficient benefits.
Here are renewable energy sources:
1. Geothermal
Geothermal energy or power is the energy which is harnessed from under the Earth. It’s not new method the ancient humans were familiar with that too such as, hot springs. Geothermal energy can be used to bring heat up from the Earth with help of heat pumps.
Geothermal energy is not suitable for all locations. But it is available on many places of earth and used also. So, geothermal energy purely depends on location and its availability. Initial cost of geothermal set-up is expensive, but afterwards you gets free cooling and heating. It will be beneficial for you if you plan to live for longer period on that location.
2. Hydro Power
Hydro power is a renewable energy source which uses water to produce electricity. Usually large dams are built for making of electricity. Though initial costs on making a dam are too high, but dam lost for long time. Dams are also used as water reservoirs.
You can have micro hydro power of your own if there is any stream runs through your area. It is possible you can install a micro-hydro system to get the energy.
3. Wind Energy
Wind energy is the energy in which wind is used to power mechanical devices. Ancient humans also used wind energy such as wind mills and water wheels. The same ancient method is used even now to produce electricity. But with help of wind turbines and blades, there are many power companies who are producing electricity commercially through wind energy.
If you live on a place where you have plenty of wind then wind energy can be an option for you. You can put a small wind turbine on your property. But you should check the local laws about permissibly of adding such structure on your property.
Wind is unpredictable so there can chances of having no wind for longer period, in such case you won’t get any power. Solution for it is that always have alternative green energy source.
4. Biofuels
Biofuels are considered green energy because the amount of carbon dioxide they emit while burning is taken back by plants when they grow again. It’s because bio fuels are made from plants. Biofules are also considered controversial as they burn plants and also human food. There are different points in favor and against biofuels. Such as, if production of biofuels is done feeding crops that can cause food crisis, or forests are cut to grow them that will affect the environment and biodiversity too!
Furthermore some biofuels are made from plant waste, such as sugar crop waste. There are acceptable sources of biofuels.
5. Solar Energy
Solar energy is one of the best sources of green energy. Turning sunlight into heat or electricity is called solar energy. In recent years solar energy has become more viable and cost effective. However, more development in field of solar energy continues to improve its efficiency and performance.
